Best Budget 144Hz Monitor in 2023 [Reviewed & Tested]

Most PC gamers know that their gaming experience depends on the quality of their equipment. The best budget 144Hz monitor for your setup is one of the essential pieces of equipment you’ll need.

Although high-refresh-rate monitors are becoming increasingly popular, 144Hz monitors remain popular because it’s easier on the graphics card. You can get 144Hz monitors in various resolutions, including 4k, but that requires a powerful graphics card.

Here are my evaluations of the best monitors available to buy. If you’re on a small budget, look at the best budget 144Hz monitor.

What to Expect From a Budget 144Hz Monitor

The good news for PC gamers who want to upgrade or for newcomers looking for a bargain is that 144Hz PC monitors are cheaper than ever. You can acquire the best budget 144Hz monitor with all the necessary features.

You can locate cheap monitors with the proper specifications and many other features for relatively affordable costs.

Refresh rates: 144Hz Vs 60Hz

Are you searching for a cheap gaming monitor? If so, you may have come across 60Hz monitors and 144Hz monitors. What’s the distinction between them?

Is it worth getting a 144Hz monitor? Of course, the answer is Yes!

A monitor’s refresh rate is one of the aspects that affect performance. It lets us know how often the screen refreshes the picture it displays, directly impacting the game’s visual quality.

But what do 60Hz & 144Hz mean? The jump from 60Hz to 144Hz is almost two and a half times, which means you get a monitor that is twice as smooth.

Higher refresh rates, such as those offered by a 144Hz monitor, improve your gaming experience by reducing stuttering. On the other hand, a 60Hz monitor will give a poor gaming experience.

Buying Tips For The Best Budget 144Hz Monitor

Source

I’ve listed some of the important factors to consider when purchasing a monitor for gaming, whether you’re a newcomer or not. This will make your purchase a little bit easier:

Response Time

Always consider the response time; the GTG transition is responsible for quickly changing your pixels’ colors. Having a fast response time will reduce screen artifacts like ghosting and smearing.

Build Quality

Build quality is often sacrificed on the lower price spectrum to save money. This isn’t too damaging, but it may increase the risk of instability and issues.

Refresh Rate

Regarding gaming monitors, you should always look for the highest refresh rate possible. As I discussed earlier, this is one of the essential qualities in ensuring a smooth gaming experience.

Budget

A cheap 144Hz gaming monitor in today’s market costs under $200. You can see from the list that I’ve tried to stick around this area because going lower drastically reduces performance.

Pros
  • Great value for the overall feature set
  • Trusted Gaming Monitor for FPS gamers
  • Good quality product
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Needs some initial setup

BenQ offers the ZOWIE XL2411P, a 24-inch display with 1920 by 1080 native resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The panel type is TN, and the screen is LED.

The monitor has a quick response time of 1 millisecond and a 144 Hz refresh rate, but it does not have a syncing option for high frame rates, so you will have to link them manually or risk screen tearing and stuttering.

The bezels are excessively thick, making this monitor a poor choice for a multi-screen setup. However, it is VESA compatible, and the stand is very ergonomic.

In addition, it is compatible with DisplayPort, DVI-D, and HDMI.

Pros
  • Incredible 1080p gaming monitor for the price
  • Perfect for competitive gaming
  • Good quality product
  • Easy to set up
  • Durable
Cons
  • The height of the stand is not adjustable

Sceptre’s E255B-1658A monitor has a 24.5-inch screen. It has a 16:9 native aspect ratio and 1920 by 1080 resolution. In addition, it has TN panels and an LED screen.

This monitor has everything you require for an ultrawide gaming monitor, including a one millisecond response time, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and Freesync compatibility for a discounted price.

The thin bezel makes this monitor VESA-compatible and flicker-free.

The monitor is compatible with DisplayPort and HDMI cables, but if you choose to connect using the HDMI cable, your refresh rate will be capped at 120 Hz rather than the maximum 144Hz refresh rate.

The quality control for this monitor is very low, and the thin bezel makes it very fragile. Unfortunately, getting all these extra features at such a low price comes at a cost. If you’re lucky enough to receive this monitor without damage, it will work well, but that is unlikely.

Pros
  • Colors look great and distinctive
  • Bright, clear picture
  • Nice, comfortable size
  • The stand is sturdy
  • Easy to set up
  • Very bright
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Confusing menus and button layout

Acer’s GN246HL is a 24-inch flat LED display with a TN panel. When the right conditions are met, it can display 1920 by 1080 at a 144 Hertz refresh rate. The viewing angles are good.

A 1 millisecond response time is ideal for gaming, although its refresh rate is a little wonky. This monitor advertises a 144 Hz refresh rate but does not mention in the product description that it operates at a 60 Hz refresh rate except if you connect it using a DVI cable.

Even if you are limited to HDMI or VGA connections, you will still be restricted to a 60 Hz refresh rate unless you purchase a DVI cable. The good news is that you are unlikely to need a new graphics card.

Unfortunately, this monitor does not come with FreeSync or G-Sync, so you must manually match your frame rate to your refresh rate if you notice any symptoms that indicate they are not synced. Because of this, Acer GN246HL is not an excellent choice for all your gaming requirements.

This monitor is VESA compatible, so it would be a perfect choice for a multi-display setup if that interests you. Bezels on this monitor are fairly thick, so they may be distracting in a configuration like that & also inconvenient, depending on how your configuration is set up.

Pros
  • Nice product for the price
  • Good size with great color
  • Great adjustable monitor
  • Good quality monitor
  • Great display quality
  • Crisp picture
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Beware of motion blur

The Samsung Odyssey G3 provides more viewing area than the Sceptre E255B-1658A for just a little more. With a screen size of 24.5 inches, the Sceptre E255B-1658A provides less viewing area than the Samsung Odyssey G3, which has a screen size of 27 inches.

The Sceptre E255B-1658A and the Odyssey G3 both feature AMD FreeSync technology, but the Odyssey G3 only costs around $50 more than the Sceptre E255B-1658A.

The Sceptre E255B-1658A doesn’t have as many refresh rates, but the bezels are thinner (165Hz vs. 144Hz), so the Odyssey G3 probably won’t make a big difference in real-world performance.

The Sceptre E255B-1658A is a budget-friendly 144Hz monitor that packs a lot of value into a relatively small package. If you’d rather have a 27-inch display than a 24-inch one, the Odyssey G3 is a good choice.

  • Comfortable enough to wear for hours
  • Great monitor for CS: GO/Twitch streaming
  • Good monitor for the price
  • Great monitor for gaming
  • Long-lasting product
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • No USB Ports

The ASUS VG248QE is a 24-inch monitor that supports 1920 by 1080 resolution. It’s an LED screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The 144Hz refresh rate on this best gaming monitor makes it an excellent option, even if you don’t have the latest graphics cards.

A quick response time of 1 millisecond is always nice to see when paired with a 144 Hz refresh rate, especially if you’re using a TN-style gaming monitor. It’s more than fast enough for any style or level of gaming and should provide satisfaction to any gamer.

The picture quality is impressive, and the viewing angles are wide.

This monitor is fully VESA compatible, so mounting it to a multi-screen stand should be simple. Its bezels are relatively thick, so this monitor may not be the best choice, but its construction quality is top-notch. It comes with a stand that can tilt, rotate, raise and lower, and even rotate to portrait mode if you spend a lot of time working with text or coding.

This huge ultrawide gaming monitor provides DisplayPort, DVI-D, and HDMI connections. It’s nice to have several alternatives to link your monitor to whatever device you desire, but you shouldn’t utilize the HDMI connection because it doesn’t support the full 144 Hz refresh rate. You may also see multiple windows at once because of their width.

  • Great monitor for the price
  • Works great with G-sync
  • Great vibrant picture
  • Good quality monitor
  • Worth every penny
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Has an obscure glitch

The G2590FX from AOC has a screen size of 25 inches. It supports a maximum resolution of 1920 by 1080 at a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and an aspect ratio of 16:9. A TN panel type and a flat LED screen are featured.

Whether you’re a casual or competitive gamer, you won’t have to worry about input lag with this monitor, thanks to its 1 millisecond response time. The high refresh rate makes it excellent for playing any game.

It is VESA compatible, so mounting it to a wall or adding it to a multiple display frame should be simple. This monitor has the thinnest bezel I’ve ever seen, which makes it a treat for the eyes. However, due to its thin bezel, this monitor will not provide much protection or support to its screen. Therefore, you should handle it carefully when transporting it or handling it.

  • Great monitor and price
  • Very easy to put together
  • Good build quality
  • Very fast response time
  • High frame rates
  • No screen tearing
  • Nice picture
Cons
  • I wish the speakers were louder

Acer offers the XFA240 as another option. It has a 24-inch screen and supports resolutions up to 1920 by 1080 with an aspect ratio of 16:9. It has a TN panel type and an LED screen.

A faster response time of 1 millisecond and a 144 Hz refresh rate are excellent features of this monitor. It also supports G-Sync, which should improve performance.

It has built-in speakers but should not be used for audio unless all else fails.

This gaming monitor is VESA compatible, but the bezel is quite thick, so multi-displaying is not advised.

  • Good quality monitor
  • Very good for gaming

  • Nice small monitor

Cons
  • Minor issues

The Viotek 109013NH is a 24-inch LED monitor with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a resolution of 1920 by 1080 at 144 Hz. VA is the panel type.

Although the Acer monitor has a response time of 4 milliseconds, which is suitable for gaming, this option still has good response times.

This monitor supports a 144Hz refresh rate, which is as high quality as you would expect. The fact that you don’t need any unique or specific cables to get it is great, except that this monitor only has one connectivity option, HDMI.

You must already have an HDMI cable to connect this 24-inch Viotek gaming monitor to your machine. Besides the previously mentioned attributes, this monitor’s color gamut and contrast ratio provides excellent picture quality and smooth gaming sessions.

Screen tearing is reduced with its G sync compatibility and free sync support.

This monitor includes FreeSync functionality and G-Sync compatibility with AMD GPUs, but you must set it up yourself because there is no native G-Sync support.

This monitor is an excellent choice for a multi-screen setup or a wall-mounted display due to its VESA compatibility. It has a thin frame, so it should be visually appealing and very convenient if you choose to do so.

The Acer Nitro VG240Y is a decent little gaming monitor that combines a 144Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time in an excellent package.

The Nitro is one of the worst-built monitors in this guide, but it makes up for it in general gameplay and value. With 144Hz refresh rate & 1ms response time, it delivers a fluid gaming experience.

Although the colors and contrast ratio aren’t the best on this monitor, it performs very well at just under $200.

Buyer’s Guide on Best Budget 144Hz Monitor

Source

What Does a 144Hz Refresh Rate Mean?

Your GPU might deliver great frame rates, but a crappy monitor might not be able to take advantage of it, resulting in the worst possible refresh rates.

A game that runs at 60 frames per second will look just as nice on a 60Hz monitor as it runs on 144Hz. But a 144fps game will look bad on a 60Hz monitor and often display tearing or stuttering due to the frame rate and refresh rate not being synced.

The best budget 144Hz monitor is great for avid gamers who want a visually appealing and consistent performance and a 1ms response time.

You may notice terms such as “FreeSync” or “G-Sync” when you play a game. They are programs created by AMD and NVIDIA, the two biggest GPU manufacturers, that link your frame rate and refresh rate to eliminate the blur as you play.

What Aspect Ratio Do You Need for Gaming?

Most games are developed to work with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and most gaming monitors use that ratio. 16:10 is another common aspect ratio.

There are several 16:10 gaming monitors available, and occasionally even games that support very unusual aspect ratios such as 4:3 are available.

You should primarily look for a 16:9 aspect ratio on your monitor if you purchase it for gaming.

You may want an excellent monitor to branch out to a 16:10, but I recommend avoiding other, less common aspect ratios such as 4:3.

Which Resolution is Best for You?

Game developers know that not everyone can jump to the newest and most expensive technological advancements, so most games are developed for 1080p resolution. Anything higher is just icing on the cake.

A higher resolution provides clear image quality on your display. You’ll get more precise image quality if you go for high resolution.

When deciding on a resolution, remember that it is not a substitute for a low refresh rate or a fast response time. Those are the most important considerations, and resolution is secondary unless you are on a budget.

What Screen Size Do You Need?

When it comes to technical aspects, screen size is not very important. Be sure your screen is big enough to support a 1080p resolution to ensure proper functionality.

Larger gaming monitors provide more screen space, but a too-big monitor can be frustrating. Your workstation and personal preferences mainly determine the size of your screen.

Bigger monitors are also heavier, so if you have to work on a highly cheap & old desk, then reconsider upgrading to a larger, sturdier desk.

FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions) on Best Budget 144Hz Monitor

1. Is a 144Hz monitor worth it?

Yes, having a 144Hz gaming monitor is worth it if you’re playing competitive games. Besides providing a more enjoyable and responsive gaming experience, it gives you an advantage over your competitors with regular 60Hz displays.

2. Is 144Hz worth it over 60Hz?

Yes! The higher the refresh rate or, the higher the number of hertz, the more pictures per second the screen can display. For instance, 60 Hz means the screen can display 60 pictures per second, and 144 Hz indicates the screen can display 144 pictures per second. This results in a smoother picture display on the screen.

3. Is 165Hz better than 144Hz?

A higher frequency, 165Hz, may not be worth it unless you’re a serious gamer, but a lower frequency, 144Hz, may be worth considering if you are a serious gamer.

4. Is 144Hz monitor good for gaming?

A good gaming monitor needs to have a fast refresh rate, as it makes motion look smoother. Although higher refresh rates on monitors are becoming more popular, 144Hz remains a popular choice because it is easier on the graphics card.
